Todd Research, a global leader in X-ray equipment for threat detection in the safety and security industry, is excited and honoured to have received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2022 for its TR15 and TR40 cabinet X-ray scanners.
Todd Research has over 70 years of experience in designing and manufacturing X-ray scanners, initially specialising in equipment for medical purposes. Following the government’s call to industry in 1970, asking for help regarding the extended mailroom attacks by the IRA, Todd Research entered the security sector by developing the world’s first X-ray scanner made specifically for screening letters and packages.
Todd Research’s highly skilled engineers have since been committed to the research and development of innovative security solutions, helping the company to advance and expand its product portfolio to cover a wide range of applications. The company’s exceptional product quality and forward-thinking mindset has allowed it to grow from a local business to a global enterprise, with customers in over 80 countries.
Handpicking the components
Each component that makes up one of Todd Research’s high resolution X-ray scanners – from cameras to hinges – is carefully chosen to ensure that the product operates smoothly and lasts for a long time. Jason Wakefield, Sales Director at Todd Research, commented: “We always want to provide the absolute best to our clients, and we’re not happy with simply living up to the expectations, we want to exceed them.”
More than hardware
A well-designed scanner can provide high image quality, but the true value lies in the hardware and software working in tandem.
Scanners made by Todd Research come with powerful software to further enhance resolution and contrast. Each system also offers many additional functionalities, such as connectivity to web-based third party apps.
Most importantly, an image of a suspect object can be seamlessly shared via message or email, making it easy for an operator to seek a second opinion without bringing more people into the potential blast area.
This combination of high quality components and smart programs also make it possible to detect extremely small amounts of powders. Jason explained: “We put a lot of effort in producing software that gets the most out of the hardware. This makes us the only provider of X-ray scanners that can detect as little as three grams of powder in a bundle of envelopes.”
Jason concluded: “At Todd Research, we take great pride in our work, and integrity is very important to us: we aim to do the right thing, every time. Our other core values are respect, passion, innovation, and transparency – we are passionate about moving forward, and stay one step ahead by constantly seeking ways to improve r products and services. We always strive to be at our best, and receiving this award means a lot. This level of recognition is truly amazing.”
