The Village Bakery Wrexham is a bakery business based in North Wales. It specialises in premium private label bakery lines and operates across different categories, including morning goods (pancakes, bagels and crumpets), ambient rolls, premium sourdough bread, scones and a full range of gluten-free bread, rolls and morning goods. It also has its Village Bakery brand, which is sold across North Wales and the surrounding counties in England.

Founded in 1934, the business is now in its 91st year and continues to go from strength to strength, both domestically and internationally. The company has grown from a single back street bakery with five members of staff in the village of Coedpoeth, to seven state-of-the-art bakeries employing over 1,000 people, with an annual turnover in excess of £150 million. In 2019, the company was rocked by a disastrous fire that destroyed its flagship bakery, including the company headquarters, Baking Academy and Innovation Centre.

This tragic event was the catalyst for a considerable period of growth and investment, with over £100 million being invested in new lines and facilities, including a 140,000 sq ft super bakery that’s four times the size of the one it replaced.

Innovation is at the heart of everything the company does, and its new product development kitchen is the hub of the operation, enabling staff to reinvent the bakery sector through premiumisation of existing products, and launching innovative and market-leading new lines, both for the UK and international markets.

To be recognised with a King’s Award for International Trade is a huge honour, incredibly humbling and something everyone at Village Bakery is incredibly proud of. While the company is only three years into its export strategy, the team are incredibly proud as a business of what has been achieved thus far through the markets unlocked, the long-term relationships formed with the company’s in-market partners, and how it has helped lift the profile of food and drink exporters in Wales.
