Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce is honoured to have been awarded a King’s Award for Enterprise for its efforts in supporting people from disadvantaged backgrounds into successful working lives.

The Chamber operates several initiatives that enable social mobility, including its award-winning ‘Positive Pathways’ and ‘Boosting Women in Business’ programmes.

Positive Pathways is a business start-up and employability skills programme specifically designed for refugees who have fled war, violence, conflict or persecution. Participants are given the tools and knowledge they need to start their own businesses, while developing vital employability skills such as CV writing and interview techniques.

The Chambers’ Boosting Women in Business programme provides bespoke support to help inspire, boost confidence and raise the self-esteem of women across Staffordshire. Through a series of events, workshops and one-to-one support, Staffordshire Chambers offers a safe and supportive environment where participants can learn to understand the value of their skill set and explore how these skills can translate into running their own businesses.

Staffordshire Chambers also became the first Chamber of Commerce nationally to establish a Social Value Forum as a place to develop and extend the impact of the social value agenda. The Forum is made up of partners from across public, private and third sector who are looking to promote social value and corporate social responsibility. The Forum has been key to influencing and developing initiatives aimed at the more vulnerable communities.

Staffordshire Chambers CEO, Sara Williams OBE, says: “I am delighted, honoured and incredibly excited to receive The King’s Award for Enterprise. Our members know that here at Staffordshire Chambers, our focus is on community and the belief that business is the bedrock of that community.

“Our businesses employ people, empower people, educate people and work within the community to ensure opportunity for everyone, including the most disadvantaged and vulnerable, and I am proud that Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce is at the heart of this.”
