Founded in 1973, Express Engineering Group has evolved from a local subcontractor into a £60 million global leader in turnkey engineering, manufacturing and assembly. Operating from seven advanced facilities across Gateshead and Middlesbrough, the group employs around 330 highly skilled people to deliver precision-engineered, safety-critical components and assemblies for demanding environments worldwide.

The group provides a full turnkey service, managing the entire production lifecycle, from material sourcing and precision machining to specialist welding, corrosion-resistant alloy cladding, assembly and testing. This integrated capability enables the business to operate as a trusted Tier 1 partner to leading global OEMs, supporting complex projects in the subsea energy, power generation, nuclear and defence sectors. Its components are deployed in some of the world’s most challenging environments, from deepwater offshore fields to highly regulated infrastructure applications.

A defining feature of the group’s recent success has been its exceptional international growth. Between 2022 and 2024, overseas sales increased by more than 91%, generating £78 million in sales and establishing exports as around 75% of total turnover. This rapid expansion reflects both strong global demand and the group’s ability to consistently deliver high quality, technically advanced solutions to international markets.

From its bases in the North East of England, the group has a truly global reach, supporting projects across the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, Africa, Malaysia and Australasia. Continued investment in facilities and capability has allowed the business to take on larger and more complex work, strengthening its position within global supply chains.
