Dragonheart Homes Ltd has been honoured with The King’s Award for Enterprise: Promoting Opportunity – recognition of a social mobility initiative that is transforming lives while delivering the sustainable homes the UK desperately needs.

At the heart of this achievement is Dragonheart’s participation in the Ministry of Justice’s Prisoners Building Homes programme. As the programme’s largest national employer, up to one-third of Dragonheart’s factory workforce are day-release prisoners, each earning the Living Wage, gaining CITB-accredited NVQs, and contributing to the Victim Support Fund. To date, 35 participants have been supported, with a reoffending rate of 0%, compared to a national average of 25-30%, generating an estimated £4.1 million in taxpayer savings.

The results speak for themselves. As one participant put it: “This programme gave me a second chance – a job, a home, a routine and hope.”

Dragonheart proves that building sustainable homes and transforming lives are not competing ambitions – they are one and the same.
